Keenpress

The saying goes that four eyes are better than two.‭ ‬You simply see a lot more.‭ ‬And there are times when two pairs of eyes see even more.‭ ‬That’s why photographs taken by Danish-American photographer duo Sisse Brimberg and Cotton Coulson,‭ ‬AKA‭ ‘‬Keenpress‭’‬,‭ ‬ask you to look twice.‭ ‬It’s that second glance that reveals that the first impression was not everything,‭ ‬and that there’s more to be experienced in the details.‭ “‬People like labelling what they see.‭ ‬But you really have to pause and look at the content and structure.‭ ‬Then,‭ ‬other things will appear,‭” ‬says Cotton Coulson,‭ ‬explaining the approach that is characteristic for the photographs from their current Keenpress project,‭ ‘‬The Space Between‭’‬.‭ (‬...‭) ‬The documentary aspect of their work is pivotal.‭ “‬We don’t crop anything.‭ ‬Everything remains full frame because every detail points toward what the image might tell us,‭” ‬Coulson explains.‭ ‬Keenpress refrains from undergoing complex post-processing because‭ “‬taking pictures is done with the camera,‭” ‬not the computer.‭ ‬When out on a shoot,‭ ‬they carry an M6‭ ‬and an M8‭ ‬mounted with either a Summicron-M‭ ‬28‭ ‬mm f/2‭ ‬Asph.‭ ‬or Summilux-M‭ ‬35‭ ‬mm f/1.4‭ ‬Asph.‭
